Fort Ponta da Bandeira
Time Schedule
Tuesday to Sunday 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 6pm
The Forte of Ponta da Bandeira, also known as Forte de Nossa Senhora da Penha de França or Forte do Registo, was built between 1680 and 1690 and had the function of defending the access to the pier and the southeast and east flanks of the city wall, crossing fire with the bastion of Porta da Vila and with the bastion of Castelo dos Governadores.
This fort has become one of the most technically advanced fortresses in the entire Algarve, with very thick walls facing the sea and architecture optimized for artillery warfare.
The fort is surrounded by a trench and has a drawbridge for access to its interior, where a small 17th century chapel lined with tiles is preserved.

It is one of the best and best preserved examples from the 17th century in the Algarve, constituting an icon of the maritime fortifications of the old war square in Lagos.
